Live for the Day

For boys and girls between the ages of thirteen and nineteen years, the period is known as the teenage years.  These days, many teenagers face differing challenges in their lives.  For them, this is the life period when they experience different changes; physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually.  In addition, several temptations come to the forefront of their lives (for example drugs, alcohol abuse and delinquency).  Mostly, they battle spiritually to live strong in faith.  Some of them avoid falling peril to the temptations whereas others fail. Moreover, there are some common challenges which they have to withstand. For example, sudden changes come normally when they go to college after completion of their tenth grade.  The students’ studying for the SLC Examination become stressed by the official uniformity of school and teachers whereas in college they feel free because teachers treat them in a more adult like manner hardly putting pressure on them. The initial days of college life may seem like a bed of roses but later, when the first term examination comes, then their expectation of the first term result often goes sour.  Even the good students can fail the examinations.  Here, the believers who seem to be very active in different areas of church find the former boring after they became attached with their college friends.  Their behavior in college and church is totally different.  There are some youngsters who were very good at leading and their involvement in the different ministries of church were appreciated as it was exemplified as such.  Now, they are found totally involved in collage and have become attached with new friends.  They have a more ambivalent common thought that is it seems, underscored by the philosophy, “Life is a bed of roses, and we should enjoy life because who knows if we will get this life in the future or not.” or put more simply, “live for the day”.They develop the habits of making many girlfriends, and boyfriends, smoking cigarettes, going to pool and snooker houses, watching new movies in film halls, going to clubs and disco bars, attending concerts, hanging out with college friends, trying to look like a cool guy and so on.  In the context of the Christian society, many youth are found in these activities, forgetting their life of faith.  They feel shy to introduce themselves as Christians.  Moreover, they adapt their friends’ habits.  Slowly, they go far from Christ, and get used to the habits of the world.  At the beginning of college they make their goal to be a professional such as; a doctor, engineer, chartered accountant, businessman, manager, or pilot and so on.  Later, their goal changes as they fail in college term examinations especially if they have been distracted by temptation to deviant behavior.  As a consequence, their parents start screaming and yelling at them, although they cannot give the reason behind their academic failure.  Their relatives and the society who used to admire them now start shunning them. Thus, they often completely feel helpless and frustrated.  With the passage of time, they try to focus themselves on study but they struggle because they left their study habits.  The students who secured distinction marks pass in first division in their 11th grade, the students who secured first division are now securing second division and others fail in many subjects.  However, they do not worry about failing in one subject because there are more students who failed in others and indeed more.  This failure disappoints the believing students, and the dream they had to be a doctor or engineer now is changed to simply be a pass mark in their examination.  Once they have failed once in their life, their downward spiral of discouragement begins and they cannot seem to rise once again. These are the problems faced by believers and other people.  Then the time comes that they are in trouble, have failed, are disappointed, and strongly feel that God will not forgive their sins and feel that they cannot be restored once again. In this way, devils have successfully taken you far from God.  I want to encourage the people who are facing these problems.  No matter how difficult the situation becomes, if you are a believer, God is always with you to help.  His love will not ever decrease for you. All you have to do is repent and come back to the Lord.  God has a great plan for your life that He wants to fulfill.  He has a future for you.  He still wants to take you to your bright destiny.Let us pray for the youngsters who are tackling these kinds of problems and are far from God so their eyes can be opened and we can see the hope, faith, and love of Christ in their lives.in their examination.
